Setting Up a Product
Important Fulfillment Update: Etsy currently shares buyer addresses with some shops but not all — automatic import for everyone is on the way.
If an order arrives without an address: Copy it from Etsy Shop Manager → Orders into the order in ListingView.
When your supplier ships, add the tracking number to the order on Etsy so your buyer gets updates. Full guide →
Setting Up a POD Product
A POD product is a Printify product attached to a ListingView listing: a blueprint, a print provider, and the exact colors and sizes you want to sell. This is the part you build once and reuse forever, so it's worth getting right.
You'll find it in Listing Optimizer — open any listing, scroll to the Product section, and set the deliverable type to POD.
Choosing the deliverable type
The Product section starts with a Deliverable Type control offering Physical, Digital, and POD. Selecting POD swaps the standard variations editor for the print-on-demand panel.
Switching type is destructive. Moving a listing away from POD removes every linked POD product, variant configuration, and design placement. ListingView asks you to confirm first, but the change can't be undone afterward.
If Printify isn't connected yet, choosing POD opens the connection dialog. See Print on Demand for the one-time setup.
Adding a product
Click + Add Product to open the catalog browser. (Once a listing already has one, the button reads + Add Another Product.) It's a three-step flow: pick the product, pick who prints it, pick what you sell.
Step 1 — Select a Product
Search the Printify catalog by name, or narrow it with the filters:
Category — apparel, drinkware, home goods, and so on
Supplier — filter to a specific manufacturer
Price — filter by base cost band
Popular — sort by what sells
Hovering a product shows its details — delivery estimate, available print areas, and a cost note. Click a product to continue.
Step 2 — Select Provider
The same blueprint is offered by multiple printing facilities, and they are not interchangeable. Providers differ in production cost, available colors, print areas, and how fast they ship.
Each provider row shows its delivery estimate, print areas, and cost. Printify Choice appears first and lets Printify route the order automatically.
Pick the provider you want and continue.
Step 3 — Select Options
Now choose exactly what you're selling. Each variation the product offers — usually Colors and Sizes — gets its own picker, with Select all and Deselect all for speed and a search box when the list is long.
You must choose at least one option per variation. The step shows a running variant count so you can see what you're committing to: 5 colors × 6 sizes is 30 variants to price and stock.
Click Add Product to Listing to finish. The product appears as a card in the POD panel.
Working with product cards
Each linked product gets a card labeled Product A, Product B, and so on. From the card you can:
Edit Options — reopen the options picker to add or remove colors and sizes
Change Provider — switch the printing facility without rebuilding the product. Colors the new provider doesn't offer are flagged.
Rename — click any variation name or option label to give buyers friendlier wording
Remove — detach the product from the listing
Bundling several products in one listing
You can add more than one POD product to a single listing — a tee and a hoodie sold under one Etsy listing, for example.
The catch is that both products contribute a "Size" variation with overlapping options (S, M, L…), which would leave buyers unable to tell them apart. Prefixes solve this: set a prefix on a product's variation and every option gets it, so "M" becomes "Tee - M" and "Hoodie - M".
There's an Auto-generate prefix from product name option that derives a sensible prefix for you. You can also override any individual option label if the auto-generated wording isn't quite right.
Etsy limits how long option names can be. If a prefix would push a name over the limit, the card shows No room for prefix — shorten the prefix or the option label.
Pricing with the variant matrix
Below the products, the collapsible Variations section holds the variant matrix — one row per sellable combination, with columns for:
Column | What it is |
|---|---|
Color / Size | The variant's options (column names follow your renamed variations) |
SKU | Your stock-keeping code. Leave blank for bulk-create presets — see below. |
Price | What the buyer pays. Defaults to 1.5× the production cost when no price is set. |
Cost | What Printify charges you to produce it |
Margin | Price minus cost, with the percentage. Turns red when negative. |
Qty | Quantity available |
On | Whether this variant is enabled for sale |
The header tells you the shape of what you're editing — "5 Colors × 6 Sizes = 30 variants" — and three toolbar buttons cover the bulk work:
Set all prices — apply one price across every enabled variant
Set all quantities — apply one quantity across every enabled variant
Reset prices — clear back to the cost-based default
When Printify's costs or catalog change
Printify updates its catalog. Two things can happen, and the matrix surfaces both.
A production cost changed. The Cost cell flags the drift and shows what it moved from and to. Click Update cost to accept the new figure — your margin recalculates immediately. Nothing changes until you accept it, so a supplier price change never silently eats your margin.
A combination was discontinued. If Printify stops offering a color/size pair you had selected, the row is marked Printify no longer offers this combo. Remove it or swap the option out before publishing.
ListingView also refreshes variant availability from Printify in the background when you open a POD listing, showing a progress strip while it works.
Tips & best practices
Choose fewer sizes than you think you need. Every size you enable is a row to price and a variant Etsy has to carry. Sellers routinely enable 2XL–5XL, price them the same as a Medium, and quietly lose money on every extra-large sale — those variants cost more to produce.
Watch the Margin column, not the Price column. Cost varies by size and sometimes by color. A single flat price across a 30-variant grid usually means healthy margin on small sizes and thin or negative margin on large ones.
Set prices before you save a preset. A POD preset's base price is derived from your cheapest priced variant. With nothing priced, Bulk Create can't create the draft — Etsy rejects a listing with an empty price.
Leave SKUs blank if this will become a bulk-create preset. ListingView mints a unique SKU per listing automatically. A hard-coded SKU would be duplicated across every listing in the batch, which Etsy rejects — so a preset carrying custom SKUs is marked single-listing only.
Compare two providers before committing. Use Change Provider on a test listing and look at the delivery estimate and cost side by side. Switching later is easy, but only before you've built a preset and fanned out fifty listings from it.
Rename options for buyers, not for you. Printify's internal color names ("Sport Grey", "Heather Military Green") are what the factory uses. If a clearer name sells better, rename it — fulfillment still uses the underlying provider value.
Common questions
Can I add a color after I've already set up the product?
Yes. Click Edit Options on the product card and check the additional color. New variants appear in the matrix needing a price.
What happens to my pricing if I change print provider?
Your prices stay as you set them; the costs update to the new provider's, so your margins recalculate. Review the Margin column after switching.
Why is one of my variants greyed out?
Either it's toggled off in the On column, or Printify discontinued that color/size combination — the row says so explicitly if that's the case.
Does the top-level Price field still matter for POD listings?
Not for pricing individual variants — buyers pay the per-variant price from the matrix. It's used as the listing's base price, and ListingView derives it from your cheapest priced variant automatically when you save a preset.
How many products can one listing hold?
There's no fixed cap, but Etsy limits total variations per listing. Bundling more than two or three products usually means hitting that limit, and buyers find long option lists hard to navigate.
