Why Calculate Fees First?
Selling on Etsy is simple—until the fees start stacking up. A single order can include:
Listing fee – $0.20 per item
Transaction fee – 6.5 % of the total charged (item + shipping + gift wrap)
Payment-processing fee – about 3 % + $0.25 in the U.S. (varies by country)
Optional extras like Off-site Ads (12-15 %), Etsy Ads, Pattern, shipping labels, and regional taxes
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Etsy really charge a fee on my shipping price?
Yes. The 6.5 % transaction fee is applied to everything the buyer pays, including shipping and gift wrap.
Why is my payment-processing fee different from the U.S. rate?
Etsy Payments adjusts by country and currency. For example, sellers in the U.K. pay 4 % + 20 p per order. We factor this in automatically when you select your location.
What about Off-site Ads?
If your shop made under $10 k last year, Etsy takes 15 % of any sale attributed to their external ads; $10k+ sellers pay 12%. Add the order to the calculator and tick “Off-site Ad” to see the effect instantly.
