Mockup Generator
Skip the product photography. The Mockup Generator lets you place your designs onto real product templates — t-shirts, mugs, tote bags, phone cases, and anything else you upload — to create realistic listing images in seconds. Generate mockups one at a time or in bulk, and they're saved directly to your Asset Library ready to use as listing photos.
What you can do with Mockup Generator
Place any design file onto one or more product templates to create realistic mockups
Upload your own flat-lay product photos or PSD files as mockup templates
Define exactly where your design goes on each template by dragging corner handles
Use built-in aspect ratio presets for common products (t-shirt, mug, tote, phone case)
Control how your design fits — contain (fit inside the region) or cover (fill the region)
Adjust horizontal and vertical alignment for precise placement
Generate in bulk — select multiple designs and multiple templates to create up to 100 mockups in one job
Generated mockups save as JPEGs to your Listing Images, ready to assign to listings
How it works
1. Set up your mockup templates
Before you can generate mockups, you need templates — product photos that your designs will be placed onto.
Go to the Mockup Templates tab in Asset Library
Upload flat-lay product photos (or PSD files with smart objects — the system auto-detects the placement layer)
For each template, define the mockup region — the area where your design will appear. Drag the four corner handles to mark the region, or use a preset ratio for common products
Built-in ratio presets:
Preset | Ratio |
|---|---|
T-shirt | 12 × 16 |
Mug | 9 × 3.5 |
Tote | 12 × 14 |
Phone case | 2.4 × 5 |
Full image | No constraint |
2. Generate mockups
Select one or more design files in your Asset Library
Open Generate Mockups from the file menu or the bulk actions toolbar
The mockup tray opens on the right — browse your templates, filter by tags, or search by name
Select the templates you want to use
Set your placement options:
Fit mode — "Contain" scales your design to fit inside the region (may add empty space). "Cover" scales to fill the entire region (may crop edges).
Horizontal alignment — Left, center, or right
Vertical alignment — Top, center, or bottom
Click Generate Mockups — the system composites your designs onto the selected templates in the background
3. Use your mockups
Generated mockups are saved as JPEGs to the Listing Images section of your Asset Library. From there you can assign them to listings as product photos.
If you update your original design file or change a template's region, any mockups generated from them are flagged as Outdated. Click the badge to regenerate with one click.
Bulk generation
Select multiple design files and multiple templates to generate mockups in bulk. The total count is designs × templates — for example, 5 designs and 4 templates produces 20 mockups. The maximum is 100 mockups per job.
A progress bar shows how many have completed. If any fail, you can retry just the failed items without regenerating everything.
Organizing templates
Tag your templates with labels like "t-shirt," "mug," "white," "lifestyle," or "flat-lay" to make them easy to filter in the selection tray. You can also organize templates into collections and browse by collection when selecting.
Tips & best practices
Use high-resolution product photos as templates — the final mockup quality depends on the template image quality
Define your regions carefully. A well-placed region makes every design look natural on the template.
Use "Contain" fit mode when your design has important edge details you don't want cropped. Use "Cover" when you want the design to fill the full region with no gaps.
Tag your templates consistently so you can quickly filter to the right product type during generation
If you sell across multiple product types, set up templates for each one and use bulk generation to create all your listing images at once
Upload PSD files with smart objects to skip manual region definition — the system auto-detects the placement area
Common questions
What plan do I need?
Mockup Generator requires a Plus plan. Free users can browse the Asset Library but cannot generate mockups.
What format are generated mockups?
All mockups are saved as JPEGs — the standard format for Etsy listing images.
Where do generated mockups go?
They're automatically saved to the Listing Images section of your Asset Library, ready to assign to any listing.
What happens if I update my design after generating mockups?
Mockups generated from the old design are flagged as "Outdated" with a badge. Click the badge to regenerate with the updated design.
Is there a limit on how many I can generate at once?
Yes — up to 100 mockups per job (designs × templates). If you need more, run multiple jobs.
Can I upload my own templates?
Yes. Upload any flat-lay product photo to the Mockup Templates tab. You can also upload PSD files and the system will auto-detect the smart object layer for placement.
