Keywords
Research any Etsy phrase in one place. See demand, competition, sales and the shops winning it, whether sellers use it as a tag or in titles.
Updated
Keywords is one place to research any Etsy phrase, whether sellers use it as a tag or in their titles. It replaces Search Term Analyzer and Tag Analyzer, so every phrase now gets the same numbers and the same scores.
It has two parts: the Keywords page, a full report on one phrase, and the Keywords tab in the Database, where you browse and compare more than 7.7 million phrases.
What you can do with Keywords
Look up any phrase of up to 4 words, even one nobody has searched before
See Opportunity, Demand, Competition and Velocity scores for every phrase
See how many listings use a phrase as a tag and how many use it in their titles
Check sales and revenue from the last 30 days, the average price and how prices spread
See the top listings for a phrase and which shops are winning it
Compare a keyword with its 4 strongest relatives
Collect up to 13 tags while you research, then copy them all at once
Browse the Database by All, Tags, Title phrases or Trending
How to use Keywords
1. Look up a keyword
Open Keywords under Research in the sidebar, type a phrase and press Enter. If nobody has looked up the phrase this month, we calculate it on the spot. Sections fill in as they finish, and waiting doesn’t use a search.
2. Read the top of the report
The Opportunity score and its Strong, Fair or Weak rating give you the quick answer, with a one-line reason underneath. Beside it you’ll see sales and revenue from the last 30 days, the number of listings and shops, and the average price. The Demand, Competition and Velocity scores are in the same section.
The label next to the keyword shows how sellers use it: Tag, Title or Tag + title.
3. Check the top listings
See the listings that use the phrase in their title or tags. Sort by Best sellers, Best match, Price or Newest, and open any listing in Listing Explorer or on Etsy.
4. See which tags go with it
Tags used with this one shows the tags sellers put on the same listings. We track tag pairs for keywords with 100 or more listings, so smaller keywords show an empty table.
5. See who’s winning
This section shows which shops sell the most for the keyword. Switch between 30D, 2M, 6M, 1Y and All, and between units and share of sales. Open any shop in Shop Analyzer from its row.
6. Compare and collect your tags
Compare with related keywords puts your keyword beside its 4 strongest relatives. Use Add as tag to collect the winners, up to 13, then click Copy tags to paste them into your listing. Etsy tags can be up to 20 characters, so longer phrases can’t be added as tags.
7. Check prices and related keywords
Prices shows how listings spread across price ranges. More related keywords suggests broader and similar phrases. Click one to open its report.
8. Browse the Database
Open Database and choose the Keywords tab. Switch between All, Tags, Title phrases and Trending, then search, filter and choose your columns. Click any row to open that keyword’s report.
How scores work
Every score runs from 0 to 100. Hover over a score to see what’s behind it.
Opportunity is the overall verdict: demand and velocity weighed against competition. 80 and up is Strong, 50 to 79 is Fair and below 50 is Weak.
Demand shows how well the listings using the phrase actually sell, based on sales per listing over the last 30 days.
Competition shows how crowded the phrase is. A higher score means fewer competing listings, so 96 reads as low competition.
Velocity shows whether interest is speeding up or slowing down, comparing the last 30 days with the last 120.
Key concepts
Tag, Title and Tag + title
These labels show how sellers use a phrase. A phrase is labeled Tag or Title when at least 60% of its uses are in that place, and Tag + title when the uses are more evenly split. In the Database, Tag + title appears as Mixed.
Trend labels
A trend label shows where a phrase is heading: Surging, New, Seasonal, Evergreen, Steady or Fading. The Trending view in the Database shows Surging and New phrases.
Peeks
On the Free plan, a peek unlocks the full data for one keyword or Database search for the rest of the month. You get 20 peeks a month, shared across the research tools.
What’s included on each plan
Scout and above: full data on every keyword, sorting by any column and CSV export.
Free: browse the Database and look up any phrase. Sales and revenue stay locked until you use a peek. Sorting by score or trend and CSV export aren’t included.
Lifetime: full data on every keyword. Sorting by score or trend and CSV export aren’t included.
Database exports include up to 10,000 rows.
Tips & best practices
Look past the Opportunity score to who’s winning. If one shop takes most of the sales, a phrase can be harder to win than its score suggests.
Check the Tag and Title label before you decide where to use a phrase. It shows what other sellers are already doing.
Use Compare with related keywords when a phrase looks crowded. A close relative may have better numbers.
Use Copy tags to move your list straight into a listing or the Bulk Editor.
Common questions
Where did Search Term Analyzer and Tag Analyzer go?
They’re now one tool called Keywords. Open it under Research in the sidebar. If you bookmarked an old page, update the bookmark to the new one.
Where did Search Volume go?
Keywords doesn’t show it. Use sales from the last 30 days and the Demand score to see what’s actually selling.
Why did a tag’s score change?
Tags and title phrases are now scored together, across a much larger set of phrases, so scores from Tag Analyzer moved. Use the current scores when comparing phrases.
Why isn’t my phrase in the Database?
The Database lists phrases of up to 4 words used by at least 30 listings across at least 10 shops. Other phrases can still be looked up from the Keywords page.
What does "Too few listings use this phrase to score it" mean?
There isn’t enough market data to score that phrase, and the search isn’t charged. Try one of the broader phrases we suggest.
Why can’t I find a brand name in the Database?
We screen for common trademarks and leave matches out of the Database, related keywords and exports. If you look one up directly, you’ll see its data with a warning near the top of the report. We can’t catch every trademark, so check licensing yourself before you list.
How often does the data update?
The Keywords database updates monthly.
Is there a limit on lookups?
Paid plans have no monthly limit on keyword lookups, though very heavy use can be slowed for a short time. Free plans use peeks to unlock full data.
